Ability Modifiers
The modifier is the number you add or subtract from the die roll whenever your character tries to do something. Also, you will sometimes apply these modifiers when no die roll is involved (such as your Dexterity modifier to your Armor Class). Included in this table is the number of bonus spells your character is capable of casting per day. To use this number, apply the score for the primary spell casting ability for your class and add the bonus spells to your current spell casting level. Although you may have bonus spells for a higher level than you are currently capable of casting, you can not gain these extra spells until you are capable of casting spells of the required level.

ABILITIES AND SPELLCASTERS
The ability that governs bonus spells depends on what type of spellcaster your character is: Intelligence for wizards; Wisdom for clerics, druids, paladins, and rangers; or Charisma for sorcerers and bards. In addition to having a high ability score, a spellcaster must be of high enough class level to be able to cast spells of a given spell level. (See the class descriptions for details.)
