Battlemage

Arcane studies mix with the discipline of Steel.  These mages have learned the balance between the two disciplines.  A true warrior scholar, these mages enter into battle on the front lines of a conflict.  Quick to anger and even quicker to action, the battle mage can be a devastating addition to anyone's army.

Class Skills:   The following are the class skills available to the Battle Mage prestige class:  Concentration, Craft, (All) Knowledge, Profession, Ride, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, and Wilderness Lore.Survival.

                           Skill Points at Each Level:    2 + Int modifier

Weapon and Armor Proficiency:    The Battle Mage is proficient with all simple weapons and with all armor and shields.

Bonus Feat:    The character may choose a bonus.  This feat is gained in addition to any other feats the character may gain due to level advancement.

Arcane Focus:    The Battle Mage has become accustomed to wearing armor and being encumbered during battle.  The Battle Mage may reduce the Arcane Spell failure chance by 10%.  This reduction goes up to 20% at 4th level, 30% at 7th level, and 40% at 10th level.  (i.e.  A 4th level Battle Mage is wearing a Chain Shirt and is using a small wooden shield in battle.  The chance for his arcane spells to go wrong is 5%.)

Concentration Bonus:    A Battle Mage has hardened his consciousness to outside stimulus.  Consequently, he has a greater chance to ignore distractions during combat.  This modifier is a miscellaneous bonus added to his Concentration score.

Spells:    Due to a Battle Mages continued use of Arcane Spells and abilities, he gains spells as if he had gone up a level in his spell casting class each time he advances as a Battle Mage.  Battle Mages do tend to favor instantaneous spells or spells that effect large groups.
 

Note:  This version of the Battle Mage focuses more on Spell Casting than battle.  For a Battle Mage who focuses on combat, use a fighters Base Attack Bonus, and allow for the +1 caster level to spells only on levels 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10.
