Requirements: To become a member of the Guardians a character has had to have faced an undead creature of significant power (more HD than the character has levels) and survived. Most monk members of the Guardians are Neutral but many Good monks find the lure of this Order hard to resist. Evil monks never follow this order. There are no 1st level monks of this Order.
Benefits: Guardians gain the supernatural ability to channel their Ki into raw energy that has major effect on undead. They gain the ability to Turn Undead as if they were a cleric of half their Order level (round up). They can turn undead up to (3 times plus Charisma modifier) per day. Monks add their Wisdom modifier to the damage roll instead of their Charisma modifier. To use this ability, a Guardian doesn't need a holy symbol but must instead take a full round action to focus their Ki and release it as energy against undead. Guardians can benefit from the Extra Turning feat as well as feats in the Defenders of the Faith sourcebook.
Loses: Due to the training required to focus the Ki energy outward, a Guardian can never use the Ki strike ability.
Requirements: Rangers who follow the path of the Guardians must have Undead as one of their favored enemy. They must also have suffered some great tragedy due to the actions of an intelligent undead.
Benefits: Followers gain Knowledge (Monster Type) for the type of undead they suffered at in the past as a class skill. If the character has at least five ranks in the skill, they gain a +1 competence bonus to attack and damage rolls against that type of undead.
Drawback: Ranger Guardians of the Grave lose the ability to attract an Animal Companion.
Other Classes: All other classes gain no special benefits from membership in Guardians of the Grave.
Special: Guardians of the Grave may be found in any area where the undead are very active. Many priesthoods will offer a Guardian sanctuary and aid. Guardians have no formal structure and any monk Guardian can teach the special Ki channeling method to another.
